Binnen Europa wordt getracht de Biomedical Engineering opleidingen te harmoniseren. Hiertoe worden conferenties georganiseerd en good practices uitgewisseld.

In januari 2007 is prof.dr. Dick Slaaf gekozen als General Secretary van EAMBES, the European Alliance for Medical and Biological Engineering Science, voor de komende twee jaar.

EAMBES is opgericht in Juni 2003 en heeft als missie: ‘to improve the health, wealth and well-being of the people by the application of medical and biological engineering and sciences’.
